Communicating with parents/guardians is crucial to ensuring student success. By getting to know families better, I am able to understand the student on a deeper level, as well as keep adults in the loop on student progress, growth, concerns, etc. Being active on programs such as Class Dojo and Parent Square help make this possible! I always tell parents- Class Dojo is just like a teacher's version of Social Media to keep everyone informed and up to date. Remember, building a relationship with the family is just as important as building a relationship with the the student!

Weekly bulletins that are sent home every Monday shouldn't just cover homework and due dates! I like to let parents know what we are focusing on in the classroom. That way they are aware of what students are working on in the classroom and what skills could be practiced at home. I also like to include reminders and important dates to be aware of. I am always sure to translate this bulletin into any language that a parent might need, in order to make this information accessible to everyone.
